Darlene D. Blithe

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Darlene D. Blithe, of Claymont, DE. Darlene passed away peacefully surrounded by her four children at Christiana Hospital Center, Christiana, DE on March 2, 2025, she was 82.

Darlene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Darlene was born in Garfield, NJ and ultimately raised her family in Claymont.  As a teen, she often traveled to Philadelphia, PA to be a regular dancer on American Bandstand.

Throughout the 1980’s and 90’s Darlene was an avid bowler at the former Holiday Lanes in Claymont.  She often played BINGO at numerous halls and local churches.

Darlene is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Joseph A. Blithe, Sr., her mother and father, Mary and Alva Sage, sisters; Marie Trombitas and Carol Finkbiner, brothers; Edward and Jacob Sage, brother-in-law, James Blithe, and sister-in-law, Beverly Blithe

Darlene is survived by her four children, Darlene (James), Joe Jr. (Rebecca), Christina, Andrew (Melissa); her four grandchildren, William, Julia, Drew and Mackenzie; her sister, Linda Evans; brother, Kenneth Sage; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A Viewing will be held Tuesday, March 11, 2025 from 10am to 11am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, where a Funeral Service will begin at 11am.  Burial will immediately follow in Lawn Croft Cemetery, 1000 West Ridge Road, Linwood, PA 19061.
