Doris H. Kee

Doris Mae (Hillis) Kee, 91, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2018 in Wilmington, DE.  She resided in Gwinhurst for 64 years.

Doris was born on December 2, 1926 in Wilmington DE, daughter of the late Mahlon and Emily (Walls) Hillis.  A 1944 graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School, Doris worked at Postal Telegraph, Western Union and American Oil Co.  After raising her family, she was employed by Diamond State Telephone (Verizon) until she retired in 1994. 

Doris was a kind, loving and generous woman.  In addition to doting on her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed bowling, gardening, cooking, reading, music and, in recent years, watching tennis and Korean soap operas.  A favorite quote: “Well, if it ain’t one damn thing, it’s another!”

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, William H. Kee (Conrad, 1945) and her brother, Robert Hillis (Joyce).

She is survived by her children, Steven Kee of Newark, DE, James Kee (Cecilia) and Thomas Kee of Wilmington, DE; grandchildren, Adam Kee (Carrie) of Claymont, DE, Lauren Kee (Franco), Daniel Kee and John Kee of Wilmington, DE; great-grandchildren, Aidan Kee, Logan Edwards and Jacob D’Alessio; and nephews, Roger Hillis of Rehoboth Beach, DE and Cliff Hillis (Beth) of Phoenixville, PA.

A Visitation will be held at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 on Friday, April 20, 2018 at 11:00 am, where a Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 Noon.  Burial will be private.
