Ella "Tootie" Mallow

Ella Mallow, age 97, passed away peacefully at her home in Bear, DE on Thursday, December 20, 2018.

Ella was born in Wilmington, DE in 1921. She attended and graduated from Wilmington High School. Soon after, she met and married George Mallow. They moved to St. Louis, MO, where they began their life together.  Having three children and supporting his career, they returned to Delaware to raise their family. Ella enjoyed gardening and friends for many years. Later in life, she became a lover of the slots and Delaware Park. She also enjoyed collecting frogs and doing word searches in her spare time. Watching WWE and everything wresting was also a great pastime.  But, no enjoyment was greater than that of her annual summer trips to the beach at Ocean City, MD with her daughter, Susan, granddaughter, Erica and great-granddaughter, Gianna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Esther and Milton Rittenhouse; her brother, Norman Rittenhouse; her sisters, Joyce Meadwell and Peggy Morgan; and her husband of 50 years, George Mallow.

Ella is survived by her sister, Dolores Pierce; her daughters, Linda Machurek and Susan Wolfe; her son, Michael Mallow; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather from 10a-11a, Monday, January 7, 2019 at Gebhart Funeral Home, 531 Delaware Street, New Castle, DE 19720, where a Service for Ella’s Life will be held at 11a. A private service will then be traveled to and held at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Rd., Bear, DE 19701, where she will be layed to rest with her husband.
