Gladys I. Krauss, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024 at the age of 93.
Gladys was the oldest of 13 children and is survived by 3 sisters, Dolly, Diane and Nancy. She was married to Elmer E. Krauss for 64 years prior to his passing in 2015. Gladys and Elmer were the proud parents of two children, Barbara Robinson (†Ken) of Wilmington, DE, and Michael Krauss (Christine) of Vestal, NY. Their family brought them immense joy, shaping their lives with warmth and purpose. Their love extended to their nine grandchildren [Jill (Dan), John, Jim (Darlene), Jeanette, Joe, Jennifer (Bob), Benjamin, Allison, and Hannah] and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Gladys hails from Boston, MA, where she was born on March 18, 1930, and spent her formative years. Soon after graduating from Charleston High in 1948, she met Elmer who swept her off her feet! The two married in the summer of 1950, at which point they relocated to Delaware where her life would begin as she would come to know it! She began her career at Atlantic Aviation but retired as an executive secretary for DuPont, where her talent for shorthand proved to be invaluable. Gladys and Elmer spent their retirement on the shores of Pickering Beach, DE and Venice, FL. Though they enjoyed their time soaking up the sun, they missed their family and eventually opted to move back to the familiar comforts of Wilmington, DE.
Gladys was the Bridge Club Queen, an avid knitter, and cut-throat Scrabble player. Between jumping cruise ships, attending Navy reunions, and partaking in frequent, weekend garage “sailing,” she really enjoyed spending time with her family the most, especially if it involved a bushel of crabs and sweet treats!
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike Claymont, DE. 19703, where friends may visit with family beginning at 9:30 a.m., with a private burial to follow.
