James J. Sheftz Obituary

Jim, age 79, of Claymont, DE passed away on March 23, 2024 with his wife and fur baby by his side.

Jim was born February 11, 1945, in Chester, PA.  He was the son of the late Joseph F. and Bertha (Chesluk) Sheftz.  Raised in Woodlyn, PA, he attended Our Lady of Peace Elementary and St. James High School class of 1964. Jim worked for I & I Sling Company in Aston, PA for over 25 years.

Jim loved gardening and always had one of his fur babies at his side.  He belonged to Claymont Moose Lodge and held various positions including President.  He also served the MD-DE-DC Moose Association holding many chairs including Sixth District President.  Jim held the Moose Legion Degree and Fellowship Degree of which he was most proud.  He also was a Knight of Columbus, first at Peace Council (PA), and Christopher Council in Claymont, DE and he also belonged to the Brandywine Social Club.

Jim was predeceased by his parents.  Jim is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Jane (Lapes) Sheftz, and his fur baby, Allie; sister, Elaine (John) Borgese; nephews, John (Peggy) Borgese and Greg Borgese; godson, Brian (Aimee) Maggs; great nieces, Brittany and Erin Borgese; and great nephew, Tyler.

A visitation will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 3200 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703 on Saturday, April 6, 2024 from 10:00am until 11:00am, where a Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00am.  Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to St. James Alumni Association, 1499 E. Ninth Street, Eddystone, PA 19022; or Claymont Moose Lodge, 5101 Governor Printz Boulevard, Wilmington, DE 19809.
