Jane Hatchadoorian Obituary

Jane Elizabeth Frandsen Hatchadoorian of Wilmington, DE died peacefully on June 15, 2018 at Christiana Hospital in Newark, DE. She was 82. She is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Edward Hatchadoorian, treasured daughter Lisa Hatchadoorian and son-in-law Steven Keim of Fort Collins, CO. She was preceded in death by her cherished son, David Ralph Hager, who passed away in 2004.

Born in southeastern PA, she was the only child of the late Olaf and Mary (Nyemetz) Frandsen. A 1953 graduate of Chester High School, she received a B.S. in 1957 from the University of Delaware. After graduating, she worked as a medical technologist in the research laboratories of the old Delaware Hospital in Wilmington, DE.

Jane was passionate about many causes and charities relating to education, healthcare and especially AIDS. She was an advocate for desegregation and helped organize community outreach within the Wilmington area. She was a Board member for many years of Miracle House, a New York-based non-profit that provided short-term lodging, meals, support and companionship to families of patients being treated for AIDS and cancer. After her son David passed away in 2004 from complications related to AIDS, she continued to educate and advocate for AIDS research and completed an AIDS walk every year for the past decade in his honor. She was also a long time Board member of the Wycliffe Civic Association and very involved in her community and public education. In her free time, she was an enthusiastic cook, world traveler, art collector, supporter of the visual arts, classical music, classical dance and public television and so loved her mystery novels.
