Kenneth Sherwood Obituary

Kenneth E. Sherwood passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 in Demopolis, Alabama.

Kenneth was born in1935 in Wilmington, DE, son of the late Harry J Sherwood and Eva (Prinsen) Sherwood and brother of the late James Sherwood, Paul Sherwood Sr. and Eleanor Bridges.

A graduate of PS DuPont High School, Kenneth was employed at Cavalier & Company from 1952-1954, before serving in the US Navy from 1954-1958. In 1958, he began working at Chicago Bridge and Iron Company, New Castle, DE with over 30 years of service.  He is the only man I know that returned to work three more times after retirement, from 1989-2002 working for Atnea Steel, Waste Management and McClain EZ Pack in Alabama.

In Alabama, Kenneth volunteered at the Demopolis food pantry.  He was a member of the Lions Club receiving the Melvin Jones Award as well as the Masonic Lodge with a 50 year service award. His hobbies included “my storage shed” where he collected model sailing ships and antique cars. He also loved bass fishing on the lakes.

He is survived by his wife, Shelby Sherwood; his three children, Jeffrey Sherwood (Denise), Robin Coleman (Henry) and Linda Gary (Martin); seven grandchildren, Kelly, Jeffrey and Matthew Sherwood, Jennifer Anderson (Shane), Kimberly Buchanan (Nick), Sarah and Melanie Gary; three great grandchildren, Kendyl, Caleb and Kenadie; and his nieces and nephews.

Services and burial will be private.

Memorial gifts may be sent to Lions Club Demopolis, Alabama, Special Olympics, Alabama and the Shriners Hospital.
