Patricia Ann O’Quinn, lovingly known as “Pat,” passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 84. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Born during a snowstorm on March 31, 1941, in Easton, Maryland, Pat was the daughter of the late Thomas Robert Seward and Edna (Waldron) Smith. She spent much of her childhood between Claymont, Delaware, and Centerville, Maryland. For the past 60 years, she made her home in Claymont, where she was affectionately known as the “Queen of Claymont” by her family and friends.
In addition to being a devoted homemaker, Pat worked throughout her life in various roles, including at Bell Telephone Company, Strawbridge & Clothier, on the Blue Route Project, and later at AgrEvo before retiring. She was a longtime member of Concord Baptist Church, where she spent many Sundays volunteering in the church nursery.
Pat’s kindness, warmth, and quiet strength touched the lives of everyone she met. Known as a second mother to many in her neighborhood and community, she was always ready to welcome others with an open door, a warm heart, and a glass of her sweet tea. Her life was a testament to her deep faith, compassion, and unwavering love for her family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Herman E. O’Quinn, as well as her beloved brother, Thomas “Ron” Seward.
Pat is survived by her devoted children: son, Devon O’Quinn (Kirsten) and daughter, Catherine Mitchell (Matthew). She was the proud grandmother of Brennan, Morgan, Matthew, Cassandra, Alyanna, Mica, and her great-grandson, A.J. She will also be missed by Carolina O’Quinn, many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
The family extends heartfelt thanks for the compassionate care provided by Dr. David Estock, lifelong friend Danielle Brady Stevens, best friend Diane King, and B.K. Temp Home Care Service.
A Viewing will be held on Friday, June 6, from 10am to 11am at Gebhart Funeral Home, 3401 Philadelphia Pike, Claymont, DE 19703, followed by a Funeral Service at 11am. Interment will take place at Gracelawn Memorial Park, with a reception to follow at approximately 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Concord Baptist Church, 2510 Marsh Road, Wilmington, Delaware 19810.
